Producing an SOR or Design Brief

In order to produce a good website a Statement of Requirement (SOR) or design brief is essential. A website developer needs to split a website project down into its different elements. In order to do this we need a good idea of what you are looking for from your website. Your design brief should cover all of the following aspects:

Project Overview
A project overview should outline what you want from the website. It should cover the aims & objectives, budget and timescale. The project overview is used by our consultants, designer’s and programmers to get a sense of what the project is.

Look & Feel
The next thing that we need to understand is what you require in respect to the look and feel of the website. This should cover the overall look as well as any specific design or graphic elements of individual pages or sections. If there are websites that you like or dislike then this can be useful for our designers. You should also include details of any specific colours, typefaces etc that should be used. If you have other brochures or flyers that the website should tie into then please provide copies of these.

Pages & Functionality
This is where you now need to start to put some detail on what you want. You should outline what pages and sections you require in the website. If any of these pages have any special features or functionality then you should detail how you expect these to behave and what you want to achieve. You should also detail your retirements for any special elements such as Content Management, Shopping Cart, Booking Order etc. Since the simplest change to a requirement could have significant cost implications it is important that you full detail all your needs and requirements.

Content Supply/Generation
All websites require content such as logos, illustrations, photos, audio, video, documents etc. We will need to know what you will supply and what we will be expected to supply. Since we may out-source some of the content generation services that we offer it is very important that web know exactly what you want us to provide in terms of content.

You should include all the requirements for your website no matter how insignificant they might appear.  We can only issue a quotation based on the requirements you provide so it is important that you supply us with as much detail as possible. This will allow our technical staff to analyse your requirements and develop a solution.

Later requests for any new or additional features or functionality will result in an additional cost and it may not always be possible to include them without significant cost and/or delay to the project.

If you have a design brief you wish us to quote on then simply email a copy to sales@3Legs.com.
